In the colon classification system, a book is assigned a set of values from independent facets. It differs from traditional library classification schemas like the Dewey Decimal System

drawback of a wiki, for me, is that it encourages you to organize your knowledge in a top-down manner, that is, you have to select a main theme as a starting point.

    Hierarchical Tags

    Hierarchical Tags

, Piggydb supports tagging to classify knowledge fragments

, tagging also has its own problems.  One of them is losing the grasp of the entire set of tags when the number of tags is growing. Piggydb offers hierarchical tagging to tackle this problem.

Hierarchical tagging allows you to classify a tag through other tags, exactly like knowledge fragments, and the classification is transitive; that is, if there is a tag “cat” classified with a tag “animal” and you classify some fragments with “cat”, then those fragment will be classified as an “animal” also.  The hierarchical tagging feature allows you to classify fragments more naturally, and drill down a large number of fragments more easily and smoothly.

Advanced Tagging — Hierarchical And Ordered Tags

Could the order of tags be a general solution for hierarchical tagging? It would be similar to relations between words within sentences or to the order of folders in a directory and without enforcing a structure.
Tagging and meta-data in general are new and very interesting approaches to handle data by adding semantic data or relations.

I wonder if ORDERED TAGS would be a more general and simple solution for hierarchical tagging. I

Hierarchical tagging « ThreeTags News and Support

Hierarchical tagging solves this problem by allowing users to organize tags themselves in simple hierarchies.

Examples below illustrate the benefits and typical uses of hierarchical tags. As is the convention at www.threetags.com, tags are separated by semicolons; sub-tags are separated from parent tags by colons.

    Cancel

rst of all, please use our new service AES.io (https://aes.io), as it is much more secure than ThreeTags, and we no longer actively work on ThreeTags.

Secondly, this is how you create hierarchical software/winamp tags (in AES.io):

    1. create “software” tag (left panel – click “Tags”, click “+”), type “software”, click “OK”
    2. select “software” tag, click “+”, type “winamp”, click “OK”.
