Touring and checking out new places is fun.

A lot of people end up with stiff necks and sore muscles after sleeping (or attempting to sleep) upright for a couple of hours. Neck pillows can lessen the discomfort, but only if you lean back. What you’ll need if you want to lean forward or sideways against the window is the aptly-named Window Travel Pillow.

It’s essentially a cushy pillow with suction cups so you can stick it right on the window before leaning into it to catch a few Z’s. It’s pretty versatile, since you can just unzip to transform it into a neck pillow.

The Window Travel Pillow is available for $29.99.

Qleek Uses Wooden Pucks to Share Online Content: Mixtape 2.0

the mixtape  – along with handwritten letters and photo albums – has become a mere inconvenience. But what if you could update its concept? What if you could still pass on a physical token, but instead of that token being an actual storage device, it linked to the content you wanted to share, which you stored or found online? That’s the idea behind Qleek.
Cancel
Qleek is a media-sharing system. It has a media player with an HDMI input, a 3.5mm audio input and Bluetooth connectivity. What makes it stand out is how it accesses media. Qleek uses Tapps, which are hexagonal wooden pucks with NFC tags inside.
Cancel
You can save and overwrite links on a Tapp using the media player plus a mobile app. The link can come from a variety of online sources: YouTube, Spotify, Instagram, Dropbox and more.
Cancel
Because a Tapp doesn’t actually contain your media, you can easily edit and replace the media that it represents. For instance, your boyfriend can hold on for years to just one Tapp, and every so often you can surprise him by updating the music playlist that it links to.
Cancel
Each Qleek media player will come with three Tapps, which as I said are rewritable. You’ll also be able to order a custom printed Tapp on Qleek’s website, though that’s most likely going to cost you extra. Or just doodle or write on the puck yourself, just like in the old days.
Cancel
Qleek will even launch with a modular magnetic wall mount to store and display Tapps.
Cancel
Pledge at least $199 (USD) on Indiegogo to get a Qleek media player plus 5 Tapps.

@hipsterbait1 is a bot that lives on twitter and tumblr, it creates ‘hipster bait’ in the form of post-post-ironic t-shirts, mashing up existing cultural referents into new combinations. It was inspired by a conversation with Rob Manuel, who suggested creating this known (hitherto humanly generated) meme in an algorithmic manner.
Cancel

I wondered if it would also be possible to create not only a representation of the t-shirt, but also the actual physical objects themselves.

The premise is a simple one. Take an image and place it with a recognisably wrong label. Offer the resulting t-shirt for sale.

Cancel
The pleasure in these cognitively dissonant juxtapositions comes from our recognition that they come from the same class of things, but the referent is wrong. One of the most popular examples emerged immediately after the death of Lou Reed, featuring an image of Iggy Pop. It’s delightful because it allows us a moment of smugness as we recognise the ‘mistake’ being made. We wear this pun on a t-shirt as a form of social signaling – ‘Look at this joke I’ve recognised, do you recognise it as well?’
Cancel
For this to work, the juxtaposition has to be from the same domain; Lou Reed/Iggy Pop works, but Lou Reed/Katy Perry would not.
Cancel
If we look closely, there are two distinct outputs to the system – the actual t-shirts (which remain in potentia until someone actually clicks ‘buy’), and the ‘shareable image’ which can be used as a signal of taste inside social networks.
Cancel
The entire process is automated – I have no control over the juxtapositions it makes, beyond defining the classes in which it is allowed to play. Whether the combinations are pleasing or not is entirely in the mind of the viewer.

You can follow @hipsterbait1 on twitter and tumblr.

Women speak in a higher pitch to men they find attractive!

After a research paper was published that asserted men are more attracted with women with higher pitched voices, a group of researchers tried to prove the flipside of that: Do women use a higher pitch when they talk to men they are attracted to?

They showed women a series of photos of men that had either more masculine or more feminine faces and express which faces they preferred. They also asked them to record a message that said: ‘Hi, we met at a bar last night. I was just calling you to see if you wanted to go out sometime. Call me back,’ after showing them either a masculinized or feminized face of a man.

What they found was that women who preferred more masculine faces would use a higher pitch to record a message after being shown a masculine face, and women who preferred feminine faces would also use a higher pitch after seeing a more feminine face.

Their conclusion was that voice pitch serves as a sexual signal and women tend to use a higher pitch when talking to someone they’re attracted to!

The dating scene in the Colonial Era is much different from the present dating scene.

It was very hard for people to date or court each other when the next village or town was days away. In order to save time, money, and supplies, “bundling” was invented.

Bundling is when parents arrange for a sleepover at a young girl’s house with the young man she is dating. The parents would have the children lay in sack on the bed so that their bodies could not touch.

In other cases, they would even out a wooden board in between them. This was to ensure that their potential marriage could work.

Cancel
There were no telephones
Cancel

If the suitor lived days away, then it would be costly for him to continue traveling back and forth.

The parents figured if they sleep in the same bed, they could talk and be forced to be intimate without having premarital sex.

Bundling was somewhat controversial at the time because this was a time when everyone was to act proper and conservative. Some places saw bundling as innocent and playful while other places, like Boston, had it banned.

The most common use of pizzle is when it refers to dog treats. The penises of animals are dried like any other meat.

It has been common to use it for dog treats because of its nutritional value. Pizzle is low in cholesterol and high in protein, hormones, vitamin, and mineral, specifically calcium and magnesium.

Due to all these nutritional benefits, humans consume pizzle as well. When being consumed by human, the pizzle is often froze or dried, but can be liquefied and also used for soups.

During the 2008 Summer Olympics, the Chinese Olympic Team drank Scottish Deer Pizzle or penis. By doing this, they felt that the drink would boost their stamina so they could remain active for extended period of time.

In order to encourage Canadian movies and expand the movie industry, Canadian officials implemented a new law that stated there would be a 100% capital cost allowance on any film investments in their country.

In order to receive the tax credit, the movie had to be a minimum of ninety minutes. Clarence Neufeld, a wealthy producer decided to take advantage of this offer and create a movie of his own.

He had an idea for a humorous horror movie and after tossing ideas around, he decided to make it very raunchy and X-rated.

Cancel

The movie features a countess who created a sex robot who is impotent named Frank. She then calls on her cousin, Sexcula to help arouse her new sex robot.

The movie plot is all over the place according to critics, with some scenes including sex parties, strippers and even gorillas.

This may be due to the ninety minutes movie requirement. In 1974, when the movie was completed, the only known print of them film was screened once.

Neufeld tried to sell the movie, but could not because of the ever-growing popularity in porn in The US. Nuefeld was unable to sell the film and it was archived in the National Archives in Canada.

Nuefeld was more than content with the movie not being released because the tax break was a reward in itself, making the whole movie worth it. Little did he know, that 40 years later, the movie would be re-discovered and it is available on DVD today.

Tiberius was a Roman Emperor ruling from 14 AD until his death in 37 AD. He was known for being dark, cheap, gloomy, and perverted.
Cancel
When he needed to be sexually stimulated, Tiberius would call for mothers to bring in their un-weaned healthy babies.

He abused his powers and took advantage of these poor babies and their mothers by having the babies suck the tip of his penis, instead of sucking on their mother’s nipples for nourishment and food.

Unfortunately, this was not the only child abuse case. He had lured two young boys that were brothers to his bedroom. As he began to rape them, the boys screamed in protest.

Cancel

His arrogance caused him to break both of the boys’ legs to teach them a lesson. In 37 AD, it was announced to the public crowd that Tiberius had finally died. The crowd went wild in cheers and praise.

Moments after it was announced that he had recovered. The crowd became saddened until another announcement was made stating that friends Caligula and Marco had smothered him and now he was definitely dead.

What the producers didn’t realize was that Alcala was not only a registered sex offender and convicted rapist, but he was possibly in the midst of a killing spree.

When the information finally got out and Alcala was caught, the media referred to him as the “dating game killer”.

Cancel
When Alcala was introduced on the show, host, Jim Lange did so by saying that he was a successful photographer

After his arrest, they found thousands of photographs of women and teenage boys in sexual poses. Investigator believe that many of these people may have been victims.

Furthermore, investigators got Alcala to plead guilty of the murder of two women in California and two in New York, both of which happened prior to the taping of the game show. The estimates of the number people kill could be anywhere from 50 to 130 people.

Ironically, Alcala won the date with the woman on the ‘Dating Game’.

The woman, however, refused to go on the date and described him as, “creepy”. Investigators say that this rejection may have led to the death of three women shortly after the taping of the show.

Q-tips are now a common household product found in most American homes.
Cancel

The idea for Q-tips came about in 1923.

Leo Gerstenzang noticed his wife applying lipstick by taking a toothpick and putting pieces of cotton swabs on either end of it. He saw that this could result in poking if you weren’t too careful.

Cancel

Gerstenzang designed and manufactured his new idea. He started his own business specifically marketing baby care products. He knew that mothers all over the country would love this product to apply their makeup and to clean small crevasses on their babies.

He released the new swabs calling them Baby Gays. At this time, gay didn’t really refer to homosexuals, it meant happy.

Cancel

In 1926, Gerstenzang renamed the product Q-tip Baby Gays.

The “Q” represented the quality of the product and the tip referred to the cotton on both ends. As they became more of a household name people dropped the Baby Gay and just started calling them Q-tips.
